I was very disappointed with the Cuisinart Sandwich Grill, because I thought I ordered a Panini Maker. Also I thought the price was $19.00 as it stated there was noshipping charge.
We are so very disappointed because we love using it and expect more from the Cuisinart brand. The 2nd one only lasted a week before it started doing the same thing. So, thinking we just had a bad one, we got another one at the store.
We used it for 3 months. Then one day, we couldn't get it to heat up. When this worked, it was the most popular appliance in our house.
Several other people have commented on the light coming on and it just not heating up, which is what ours did. We are very dissapointed in the reliability of this product. Every weekend we made sandwiches for a family of 5.
It was wonderful - very easy to clean up.
I got this grill as a gift for reaching a service anniversary milestone at my company, so aside from the years of toil, it was completely free. There's so much you can do with this machine.I docked it one star because the recipe booklet is kind of sparse and the grill plates aren't removable for cleaning. On my first attempt, I heated up the grill, sprayed a little olive oil on the plates, and loaded 'em up with some English muffins, egg, cheese, and rosemary. The muffin breakfast sandwiches cooked up perfectly, and aside from a little spilled egg in the crevices of the unit, cleanup was a snap -- no burned mess to contend with.
Plate size. Also, a word of warning: support the handle from the bottom when you close the lid, because the base isn't stable enough to withstand the pressure needed to engage the latch and the whole unit can tip over and spill the contents of your sandwich and/or burn you. Burned ingredients. If you don't use a standard bread size like Home Pride or Wonder, or if you don't feel like trimming bread, maybe this grill isn't for you.For the price, though, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a sandwich grill that works as well or as easily as this one. I've never even come close to burning anything in this grill, but I would guess that for those who are having this problem, either the plates weren't sufficiently oiled/greased or the sandwich was left in the grill too long.2. I've had it for about a week now, and I have to say, I love this thing.
Just FYI.Just to address a couple of concerns people seem to be having:1. Two thumbs up. Delish. I've also tried grilled ham and cheese and an apple version of the danish listed in the recipe section of the manual.
But overall, it's worth the 18 dollars I spent on it, because it makes the sandwich taste better grilled and you don't have to babysit it (although I suggest putting a paper towel under it in case of drips). I assumed to click the sandwich maker closed completely shut while making my sandwich, so that's what I did. I've used it once so far (and plan on using it more), but I sprayed the maker with non-stick spray (i'm not sure if I should have), and I noticed that when i put sliced cheese in the sandwich, it drips through the back (especially if using deli meats, as deli meats carry juices that can make the cheese drip more. It doesnt grill the sandwich perfectly (some sides darker and other sides softer), but it does a pretty good job.
Heats and cooks quickly, no plastic taste. Sandwiches come out a bit smashed if you put much in them. Buy a toothbrush to clean the hinges/screw holes because you will get cheese in them eventually. Not as bad as I expected for the price. As other reviewers have noted, the fixed hinge is a tad annoying.
